Buying Guide: Which Product Should I Use?

What is the best UV protection for car headlights?

The best UV protection for car headlights is to restore the lenses and then seal them with a UV-resistant coat, which removes existing sun damage and prevents future yellowing. The CERAKOTE Headlight Restoration Kit does both in one go — clearing oxidation and finishing with a UV-protective sealant for long lasting clarity.

What is a high absorbency household cleaning cloth?

A high absorbency household cleaning cloth is a high GSM microfibre towel that soaks up spills and wipes down surfaces streak free without leaving lint behind. The Shineworks Ultimate Microfiber Pack fits the bill — its 350GSM lint free cloths and ultra absorbent 1000GSM towel handle everything from kitchen spills to glass and general home and office cleaning.

UV protection for car plastic?

Faded, chalky plastic trim and bumpers are caused by UV damage, and the best protection is a ceramic coating that restores the deep black finish while shielding the plastic from further sun fade. The CERAKOTE Ceramic Trim Coat Restoration Kit from Shineworks does exactly that — reviving heavily faded trim and locking in long-lasting UV protection.

Which product should I use to wash my car without a hose?

Use DIY Detail Rinseless Wash. It is mixed with a small amount of water and allows you to wash and dry one section at a time without a final hose rinse.

Which product should I use for heavily faded black plastic trim?

Use the Cerakote Ceramic Trim Coat Restoration Kit. It is designed for heavily faded, unpainted exterior plastic trim and forms a ceramic protective layer after application.

Which product should I use for cloudy or yellow headlights?

Use the Cerakote Ceramic Headlight Restoration Kit. It uses a three-step process to restore two headlights and apply a ceramic UV-protective coating, with no power tools required.

Can ordinary paint products be used on matte vinyl or PPF?

Some paint polishes and waxes can alter the appearance of matte or satin films. Use a product specifically approved for PPF or vinyl and test a hidden area first.

What is the safest way to contact wash car paint?

Use plenty of lubrication from a quality car shampoo or rinseless wash together with clean, soft wash media. We recommend the DIY Detail Incredible Wash Mitt for the main painted surfaces because its thick microfibre pile helps keep contamination away from direct contact with the paint.

Which Shineworks product should I buy if I only want one tool for washing my paint?

Choose the DIY Detail Incredible Wash Mitt for the main painted surfaces of the vehicle.

Cerakote Ceramic Coatings

What does the Cerakote Trim Coat Restoration Kit do?

It restores heavily faded, unpainted exterior plastic trim and forms a ceramic layer that helps protect against UV exposure, chemicals and environmental contamination. It is a coating rather than a temporary trim dressing.

How much trim can one Cerakote Trim Coat Kit cover?

The kit contains 10 application wipes and gloves, which Cerakote says is enough for the exterior plastic trim on a large vehicle.

Can Cerakote Trim Coat be used on painted plastic?

It is designed for unpainted exterior plastic trim. Do not use it on painted, gloss-black, rubber or interior surfaces unless the manufacturer specifically approves that material.

How long should Cerakote Trim Coat dry?

After applying it to properly cleaned and dried trim, allow it to dry for approximately one hour before exposing it to normal use.

Does the Cerakote Headlight Restoration Kit require tools?

No. The kit uses a three-step hand-application process and does not require power tools.

How many headlights does the Cerakote Headlight Kit restore?

Does CERAKOTE Rapid Ceramic Tire Coat sling onto paint?

What size is CERAKOTE Rapid Ceramic Interior Detailer?

Can I apply a Cerakote sealant over an existing ceramic coating from another brand?

Cerakote's spray sealants — Paint Sealant, PPF & Vinyl Sealant, Marine Sealant and Wheel Sealant — are designed to double as maintenance toppers over an existing Cerakote ceramic coating, refreshing gloss and water beading without stripping the base layer. We haven't tested compatibility over ceramic coatings from other brands, so for a guaranteed result we'd recommend either a full Cerakote system or contacting us before layering over a competitor product.

What is DIY Detail Hydr8?

Hydr8 is DIY Detail's TEOS-based ceramic coating. It creates a glossy, hydrophobic protective layer intended to improve resistance to UV exposure, water spotting and everyday contamination. The kit contains 30 ml.

Is DIY Detail Hydr8 suitable for beginners?

Hydr8 has a slower-flashing formula that provides a wider application window, but it still requires careful paint preparation, controlled application and proper levelling. Beginners should watch the application instructions and work on small sections.

How should I prepare a vehicle before applying Hydr8?

The paint should be thoroughly washed, decontaminated if required, polished where necessary, completely dried and wiped with panel prep before applying the coating.

How long should I keep Hydr8 dry after application?

Avoid rain exposure for at least one hour after application and do not wash the vehicle for three days

Its natural Tampico bristles are stiff when dry and soften when wet, so they compress safely into tight spaces without scratching alloy, chrome or painted wheels.

Is the Wheel Barrel Brush safe on alloy wheels?

Yes. It is designed to be safe on alloy, chrome and painted wheels when used with care. As with any wheel brush, the wire loop core inside the handle can scratch delicate finishes if handled carelessly.

Leather Honey Leather Care

Which product should I use for suede or nubuck?

Use the Leather Honey Suede & Nubuck Care Kit. Suede and nubuck require dedicated products and should not be treated with ordinary smooth-leather conditioner.

What is the difference between Leather Honey Cleaner and Conditioner?

Leather Honey Cleaner removes dirt, oils and surface grime. Leather Honey Conditioner is applied after cleaning and drying to help replenish moisture and keep suitable finished leather soft and flexible.

Should I clean leather before conditioning it?

Yes. Remove dirt and oils first, allow the leather to dry fully and then apply conditioner. Conditioning dirty leather can trap contamination on the surface.

Can Leather Honey be used on leather car seats?

It can be used on many genuine finished-leather car seats. Check the vehicle manufacturer's care instructions and test a hidden area first because some modern seats use coated or synthetic upholstery.

Can Leather Honey be used on leather couches?

Yes, on many suitable finished-leather couches and chairs. First identify the leather type and spot-test the product in an inconspicuous area.

Can Leather Honey Conditioner be used on suede?

No. Do not use standard Leather Honey Leather Conditioner on suede or nubuck. Use the dedicated Leather Honey Suede & Nubuck Care Kit instead.

Can Leather Honey be used on boots and handbags?

Yes, on many suitable finished-leather boots, shoes, handbags and accessories. Use the suede and nubuck kit for materials with a soft raised nap

Does Leather Honey Cleaner include UV protection?

What is included in the Leather Honey Cleaner with UV Protectant and Conditioner Bundle?

The bundle includes one 16oz bottle of Leather Cleaner with UV Protectant and one 8oz bottle of Leather Conditioner, covering cleaning, UV protection and conditioning in one kit. It's suitable for automotive seats, steering wheels and dashboards as well as leather furniture, bags and boots.

Wash Mitts, Brushes & Microfibre Towels

What is the best towels for glass and paint cleaning?

The best towels for glass and paint cleaning are high-GSM, twist-loop microfibre cloths that lift dirt without leaving swirl marks or lint. The Shineworks Ultimate Microfiber Pack covers it all — a 1000GSM drying towel, a 1200GSM detailing cloth for coatings, and five 350GSM lint free cloths for glass and everyday wipe downs, all scratch safe on paint.

Which Shineworks towel should I use to dry an entire car?

Use the Shineworks Premium Large Microfiber Car Drying Towel. It is a 1000 GSM twist-loop towel measuring 130 cm by 75 cm and is intended for high-capacity vehicle drying.

What is the small 1200 GSM drying towel used for?

The 30 cm by 30 cm 1200 GSM twist-loop towel is useful for smaller vehicles, motorcycles, door jambs, wheels, final drying and areas where a large towel is difficult to handle.

What are the 350 GSM microfibre towels used for?

The Shineworks 350 GSM five-pack is suitable for general detailing, product removal, interior cleaning and other routine tasks. Use separate towels for paint, interiors, wheels and dirty areas.

What does GSM mean on a microfibre towel?

GSM means grams per square metre and describes the fabric's weight and density. Higher GSM towels are generally plusher and more absorbent, while medium-GSM towels are often easier to use for cleaning and buffing.

How should I wash car-detailing microfibre towels?

Wash them separately from ordinary laundry using a mild liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softener or bleach, and dry them on low heat or air-dry them.

Can I use the same microfibre towel on wheels and paint?

No. Wheel towels can collect abrasive brake dust and road grit. Keep separate, clearly identified towels for paint, glass, interiors, wheels and engine bays.

What is the best wash mitt for washing a car?

For contact washing painted surfaces, we recommend the DIY Detail Incredible Wash Mitt. Its extremely plush 1070 GSM microfibre pile holds a large amount of wash solution while helping lift dirt away from the paint. It is soft, lint free, reusable and suitable for both traditional shampoo washing and rinseless washing.

Should I use a wash mitt, brush or microfibre towel to wash my car?

Each has a different purpose. For the main painted bodywork, we recommend the DIY Detail Incredible Wash Mitt. Brushes are useful for wheels, lower panels, grilles and difficult to reach areas. Microfibre towels are ideal for drying, buffing, interior cleaning, glass and rinseless washing

Can I use the same wash mitt on my wheels and paint?

We recommend keeping wheel cleaning tools separate from the mitt or towels used on painted bodywork. Wheels collect brake dust, road grime and other contamination that you do not want transferred back onto your paint.

Should I have more than one wash mitt?

Yes, ideally. At minimum, keep a wash mitt used on wheels completely separate from the one used on your paint, since wheels carry abrasive brake dust and road grime. Many detailers also use a second mitt for heavily contaminated lower panels versus cleaner upper panels, though a single dedicated paint mitt is fine if you're careful about rinsing and reloading it often during the wash.

What microfibre towels do I need for car detailing?

A useful setup is a large absorbent towel for drying the vehicle, a smaller premium towel for precision detailing and a supply of general purpose microfibre towels for interiors, glass and everyday detailing. The Shineworks Ultimate Microfiber Pack combines all three types.

Can I use the Incredible Wash Mitt with normal car shampoo?

Yes. It can be used with traditional car shampoo and bucket washing as well as rinseless washing. It pairs particularly well with DIY Detail Incredible Suds or DIY Detail Rinseless Wash.

It uses an 87% polyester and 13% polyamide microfibre blend and is made in Korea.

Can I use the Soft Flagged Tip Wash Brush on wheels?

Yes. Wheel faces, wheel barrels and tyres are some of its main uses. It can be paired with wheel cleaners, snow foam or other automotive cleaning products.

Can I use the Soft Flagged Tip Wash Brush on body panels?

Yes. Its flagged tip nylon bristles are designed to be safe for painted surfaces when the brush is clean and used with suitable wash lubrication.

What is the difference between the Perfectly Safe Brush and the Soft Flagged Tip Wash Brush?

Both use gentle flagged tip bristles, but they suit slightly different jobs. The Soft Flagged Tip Wash Brush is a compact hand held brush suited to wheels, tyres, body panels and general exterior cleaning. The Perfectly Safe Brush has a larger 20 cm brush head and a threaded fitting that allows it to be attached to a compatible extension pole, making it useful for larger vehicles and difficult to reach areas.

Can the Perfectly Safe Brush be attached to an extension pole?

Yes. The brush head uses a standard 3/4 inch ACME thread that fits compatible extension poles. The extension pole is not included.

Can I use the Perfectly Safe Brush on an SUV, van or ute?

Yes. It is particularly useful on larger vehicles because the threaded brush head can be fitted to a compatible extension pole to reach roofs and other difficult areas.

Can I use the Perfectly Safe Brush on wheels?

Yes. It can be used on wheels, trim, lower sections and other exterior contact wash areas.

Why use a tyre shine brush instead of a foam applicator?

A brush can work tyre dressing into textured surfaces more effectively than a flat foam applicator. It also helps provide even coverage across larger profile tyres and can reduce drips and uneven patches.

Can the Tire Shine Brush be used on plastic trim?

Yes. It can also be useful for applying suitable products to textured exterior plastic trim.

What is the best Shineworks towel for drying a whole car?

The Shineworks Premium Large Microfiber Car Drying Towel is our primary full vehicle drying towel. It measures 130 cm x 75 cm and uses an ultra absorbent 1000 GSM twist loop microfibre construction.

It measures approximately 130 cm x 75 cm.

The large drying towel is 1000 GSM.

Is the Shineworks Large Drying Towel safe on ceramic coatings?

Yes. The soft, lint free microfibre is suitable for painted and ceramic coated surfaces.

What is a twist loop drying towel?

Twist loop microfibre uses longer twisted fibres designed to absorb large amounts of water efficiently. This allows the towel to dry a vehicle with fewer passes over the paint.

Can one Shineworks Large Drying Towel dry a whole car?

For most normally sized vehicles, its large 130 cm x 75 cm format and 1000 GSM construction provide very high water capacity and are designed for full vehicle drying.

How should I wash my Shineworks drying towel?

Machine wash separately in warm water. Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets because they can coat the microfibre and reduce absorption. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry. We will be stocking a special microfibre wash soon

What is the Shineworks 1200 GSM Small Microfiber Towel used for?

The 30 cm x 30 cm 1200 GSM towel is designed for precision detailing. It is ideal for small areas, final wipe downs, detailing sprays, coatings, waxes, sealants, trim and other jobs where a large towel is awkward.

Why is the small Shineworks towel 1200 GSM?

The ultra dense 1200 GSM construction provides a very soft and absorbent surface in a compact towel, making it useful around delicate paintwork and for precision detailing.

Can I use the 1200 GSM towel to remove ceramic coating?

No — the 1200 GSM towel is a drying and buffing towel, not a coating remover. Removing an existing ceramic coating requires a dedicated decontamination or polishing step (such as a clay bar, chemical decon, or machine polishing), not a microfibre towel. Once a coating has been removed or a fresh coat applied, the 1200 GSM towel is well suited to buffing and detailed drying around mirrors, trim, door jambs and smaller panels.

Where can I find Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Shineworks products?

We keep individual SDS / MSDS documents on file for our Cerakote, Leather Honey and DIY Detail chemical products, covering handling, storage and first-aid information specific to each product. Contact us and we can point you to the exact document you need, or check the product's own listing.

Should I use Shineworks chemical products in a ventilated area?

As general good practice with any automotive cleaner, coating or sealant, work in a well-ventilated space and avoid prolonged breathing of spray mist. Ventilation requirements can vary between products, so check the specific product's SDS for its exact handling guidance before use.

What should I do if a product gets on my skin or in my eyes?

As a general first step, rinse the affected area with plenty of water and remove any contaminated clothing, then seek medical advice if irritation persists. For exact first-aid guidance on a specific product, check that product's SDS, which lists the precise steps for its formulation.

How should I store Shineworks chemical products?

Store products in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, and keep them out of reach of children. Some products have additional storage or flammability considerations, so check the specific product's SDS for anything beyond this general guidance.

How should I dispose of empty containers or leftover product?

Don't pour leftover chemical product down household drains. Dispose of empty containers and any unused product according to your local council's hazardous waste guidelines, and check the specific product's SDS for its disposal recommendations.
